Postcard from the Sacramento Delta
California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is at the epicenter of the state’s water politics and infrastructure, as well as home to many of the state’s endangered species. But it’s also made up of thousands of acres of prime farmland, much of which lies below sea level. A system of antiquated levees protects dozens of agricultural islands, but with the oceans rising, how long can this fragile system survive?
